Léon Vaguer for Masquelier
Léon Vaguer was active in Paris during the late nineteenth century, approximately from the 1880s to the early 1900s, when the French capital stood at the pinnacle of the world’s luxury jewellery industry. This remarkable period, known as the Belle Époque (“Beautiful Era”), was celebrated for its economic prosperity, artistic innovation and extraordinary standards of craftsmanship.
Paris became the destination of choice for Europe’s aristocracy, royalty and newly wealthy industrialists, all seeking exceptional jewels that reflected their status and refined taste. Master jewellers and ateliers flourished, producing exquisite creations for grand balls, lavish weddings, court ceremonies and fashionable social gatherings. Within this vibrant artistic environment, Léon Vaguer’s atelier contributed to the rich tradition of French haute joaillerie, crafting elegant, nature-inspired jewels that embodied the sophistication and technical excellence of the Belle Époque.
Masquelier
Masquelier was a French jewellery workshop active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although not as famous as Cartier or Boucheron, the atelier was known for creating fine handcrafted jewellery with elegant floral designs, old-cut diamonds and exceptional craftsmanship. Today, Masquelier pieces are rare and highly appreciated by collectors of antique French jewellery.
