Cartier "Les Indes Galantes" Pearl Bracelet
Cartier, 1990s
A Cartier "Les Indes Galantes" pearl bracelet in 18kt white gold. Single strand of cultured pearls centering two carved and diamond-set chalcedony leaf motifs. Closes with a white gold ball clasp and safety chain.Â
"Les Indes Galantes" is a Cartier line from around 1989, named after Rameau's 1735 opera-ballet of the same name (a French Baroque work with exoticized themes of India and other distant lands). Design-wise, it revives Cartier's earlier "Tutti Frutti"/"Hindou" style from the 1920s — carved colored gemstones (agate, chalcedony, onyx, sapphires) paired with diamonds in leaf and floral motifs, inspired by Mughal Indian carved-stone jewelry.

Cartier
Cartier is regarded as one of the most prestigious jewellery manufacturers in the world. The company has a long history of sales to royalty. King Edward VII of Great Britain referred to Cartier as ""the jeweler of kings and the king of jewelers."" For his coronation in 1902, Edward VII ordered 27 tiaras and issued a royal warrant to Cartier in 1904. Similar warrants soon followed from the courts of Spain, Portugal, Russia and the House of Orléans.
