Alan Gard

ALAN GARD (b.1935) is a British jewelry designer. Gard was born in London in 1935. Ā He apprenticed for 7 years under the jeweler Crombies, on Bond Street and also worked for Andrew Grima. He formed his own business in 1964. Gard was part of the renaissance in British jewelry design. Like his Ā contemporaries, Gard favored textured gold, and sculptural forms. The centerpieces were always semi-precious, or precious stones, prong set to reveal the beauty of the natural stone. Diamonds were used sparingly as an accent.

Gardā€™s work has been displayed in exhibitions at Goldsmiths Hall and the Design Center London; it has been collected by celebrities, politicians, and royalty. Gard also designed jewelry and medals for the films Nicholas and Alexandra and Modestie Blaise. He continues to work out of his Hatton Garden workshop today.
